What is Kubb? ("Block" or "Log")
Kubb "Throwing logs" is a very old game, it is quite popular in Sweden now,
particularly on the
island Gotland. Kubb is a "partygame" which is played outdoors with 2-20 participants.
Everyone
can join it, young or old.
What you need to play Kubb
The game pieces are made of wood and contains of following parts;

How to play.
The game is played on a playing ground 5 x 8 meters, the size can be less
or more depending on the
players skilfulness, the playing ground should be fairly smooth and flat, usually
we play on grass but
gravel, flat rock or snow will also do.
The players are divided in two teams and take place behind their respectably
baseline. The game is
aimed at to knock down the other teamīs kubbs with the throwing batons according
to the rules.
When all the kubbs are knocked down, the king should be knocked down, the team
which does this
has won. Team A divide the batons among themselves. As many kubbs as possible
shall be knocked
down on team Bīs baseline from team Aīs own baseline. When team A is ready,
itīs team Bīs turn.
They now start with throwing the fallen kubbs over the halfway line. If any
comes outside the
opposite teamīs side, team B has two more chances, if team B fails, team A may
place the kubb
wherever they like on their own side, suitably behind the king. When the kubbs
have been throwed,
team A raises them as disadvantageous as possible. Team B then throw their batons
from their
baseline. They must knock down all the kubbs on team Aīs "side" before they
can start knocking
down the kubbs on team Aīs baseline. The game continues like this between the
two teams. If a team
dont manage to knock down all the kubbs on one side, the opposite team has the
possibility to throw
from a imagined baseline drown through the kubb most in the front on their side
next time. When the
game can be won by one team, they have to save one baton to the king. If only
one kubbīs standing,
the last baton may not be thrown on that kubb, instead the turn goes over to
the other team. The king
can only be knocked down from the baseline.
REMEMBER: The baton must be held in one end, not in the middle! The throw
with the
baton must be made from below and forward!
